The cat tree should be a piece of furniture — not a place you hide a piece of furniture when guests come over.
Boughhouse started in a Brooklyn studio shared by an industrial designer and two unsupervised cats. We were tired of choosing between a piece of carpet-draped chipboard hidden in the corner and a $4,000 architectural cat tree we couldn't actually buy.
So we built our own — out of off-cuts from a nearby mill, with scratching pads that could be swapped instead of thrown away. We posted it on Instagram. The comments wanted to buy it.
We're launching direct, one piece at a time, the same way Barkitecture carved out a category with a story instead of a SKU. Design-boutique and specialty retail partnerships come later, once the brand has earned shelf space.
